The private sector workforce of the United Arab Emirates(UAE) has increased by a third in 2023, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Approximately 68,000 Emiratis are now employed in the private sector of the UAE. The workforce has increased by more than a third so far this year. The data from the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation revealed that over 17,000 citizens joined private companies in the country so far this year.

According to The National, the UAE aims to boost local employment in the private sector. The Emiratisation drive attracted a huge number of employees in the private sector.

On Saturday, the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation revealed that around 67,988 employees were working in the private sector of the country as of May 17. The UAE’s private sector witnessed an increase of 35 per cent.

Reportedly, the UAE authorities want to make sure that 10 per cent of private sector employees are Emirati by 2027. Private sector companies are also given a target of ensuring that Emiratis make up 2 per cent of their staff by January 1 2024.

Vijay Gandhi, director of HR and recruitment firm Korn Ferry, said, “A lot of companies are embracing it and finding there is actually an abundance of talent available to them.”

David Mackenzie, group managing director of the recruitment agency Mackenzie Jones, said, “We’ve just placed two Emirati candidates into HR roles and they are exceptionally good.”

The United Arab Emirates introduced the Nafis program as part of 'Projects of the 50' to support the private sector in the country. It introduced several schemes, including an Emirati salary support scheme, child allowance scheme, unemployment benefit, pension program and on-the-job training program for employees.

Under the ‘NAFIS' program, the UAE aims to empower Emiratis to take jobs in the country’s private sector.

Russian central bank hikes rates amid the Ukrainian crisis

  Russia's central bank on Monday raised its key policy rate to 20 per cent from 9.5 per cent amid the Ukrainian crisis. The western countries imposed harsh sanctions against the country, which affected the Russian economy. The central bank also ordered companies to sell 80 per cent of their foreign currency revenues to manage the fallout of harsh economic sanctions.
